BRUEL – the original CCI Catalan band returns with special guest Àngel Laguna!

Anaís Falcó (fiddle & vocals) and Xavier Roto (guitar, vocals & traditional percussion) formed Bruel in 2006 with the intention of providing dancers with a constant sound, delicate as a bird but capable of being strong like the bellowing of the wind, while at the same time delving into the repertoires of traditional violin and Catalan song. Bruel have come together again after 15 years and are delighted to celebrate many of the sounds and friendships created over the years. A duo that collaborates with many other performers such as Ángel Laguna, Patri Garcia and Christian Simelio.

SOUL CEOL – Rounding off the late- night gigs is soul singer Esosa. An exponent of a wide range of vocal techniques from classical to jazz to pop, gospel, R 'n' B and soul, Esosa is a confident and charismatic performer and has performed in numerous venues throughout Europe and the UK. Esosa has worked with a wide range of musicians including performing as part of Stevie Wonder's backing choir at the O2 Arena in Dublin, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Liam O'Maonlaí, Kíla, Christy Moore and African songstress, Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

Esosa will be joined in this line-up by versatile percussionist Brian Fleming (New York’s inclusive St Pat’s For All & Tig Linn) and recently Oscar nominated and IFTA Award winning composer James Mahon (Kila), as they perform a gig that is laced with joy, sincerity and passion - the perfect finale to a festival day!

(percussive dance)

10.png

19.30h • El Mercat Vell, Plaça de l'Ajuntament • €10

Traditional Irish music was made for dancing: the infectious upbeat tempos get feet tapping, hands clapping and everyone joining in. Now in its fifth year and an integral part of the festival, Call to the Dance combines fiddler, violist, and composer Ultan O'Brien (Slow Moving Clouds) and percussive dancer Nic Gareiss (This is How we Fly) to perform a set of new collaborations exploring space, time, and texture in Irish traditional music and percussive dance.

By engaging mimetically: fiddle, fiddler and fiddling, dance, dancer and dancing, the duo re-imagines traditional music and dance through historic repertoire and new material. This percussive spectacle will have everyone on their feet!

LATE NIGHT DOUBLE BILL - SATURDAY

BRÍDÍN

Justo with his band PANCHO

12.png

23.15h • El Mercat Vell, Plaça de l'Ajuntament • €10

BRÍDÍN – Contemporary Folk Harpist / Singer / Composer

Over the past number of years, BRÍDÍN has developed her own style influenced by her natural surroundings and rooted in her background in traditional Irish music. BRÍDÍN uses her loop and effect pedals to create her musical pieces. Her layered melodies on harp and voice blend beautifully with contrapuntal fiddle, guitar and bass, woven together with pulsating percussion. BRÍDÍN’s recent performances include ‘The Late Late Show’, ‘The Tommy Tiernan Show’, ‘Ireland AM’ and she was also a finalist in the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards (Best Emerging Artist). BRÍDÍN will be joined by Conor Arkins on fiddle and other special guests.

PANCHO

After seventeen years of Rock n Roll with Justo and Los Pecadores, Cesc Estrada and Justo Conde have changed the direction of their compositions and, without moving too far away from the guitar sound that marked their identity, they now focus on the sounds of a broad spectrum of American original rock bands. Mixing their own folk compositions, with country and blues touches, this new departure for Justo Conde (acoustic guitar, vocals and harmonica), Cesc Estrada (electric guitar & vocals), Josep Faraboni (bass), Miguel Pérez (pedal steel guitar) and Hug Salvat (drums) will make for an entertaining and lively late night event.

FESTIVAL COLLABORATION AT WORK

Music : Dance : Voice

17.15h • El Mercat Vell, Plaça de l'Ajuntament • €8

14.png

In the words of Martin Tourish (Altan) – "CCI Sitges is the festival where Bach meets Brazilian and Irish music, where choreographers meet future musical collaborators, where a forty-piece choir happily joins in on a trad session, but it is also where lifelong friendships and collaborations are born. By providing this space collaborations that would otherwise not have taken place are suddenly possible. It might adequately be described as a birthing ground for new work!"

Join us to see genuine festival collaboration at work, when over three days performers will work together, the results of which will be shown at this creative and collaborative event. On the adventure will be Nic Gareiss, Ultan O’Brien, Felip Carbonell and who knows who else? Join us and find out!
