Simon Morgan & The Richie Buckley Quartet are joined by special guests Emil Miszk and Patrycja Wybrańczyk from Gdańsk, Poland, for a special Irish-Polish collaboration of music and song.
An Irish Songbook is a celebration of Ireland’s musical heritage, reimagined through the lens of jazz. Curated by Simon Morgan and Richie Buckley, this concert brings together some of Ireland’s finest musicians to explore the timeless beauty of Irish song in a fresh, contemporary way.
An Irish – Polish Collaboration of Music and Song
Creative Connexions Ireland & Artscope, presenting alongside Roscommon County Council Arts Office, are delighted to begin a new Irish-Polish musical connection with An Irish Songbook at King House, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, on Saturday 26 September 2026.
Blending classical craft, jazz improvisation and traditional lyricism, An Irish Songbook presents sensitive new arrangements of familiar melodies, from haunting Irish airs to joyful Polish ballads, reshaped with warmth, depth and emotional sincerity.
Fronted by Simon Morgan, one of Ireland’s most versatile and acclaimed vocalists, and Richie Buckley, the legendary jazz saxophonist celebrated for his expressive tone and world-class improvisation, the quartet creates music that honours tradition while opening it to new possibilities.
Travelling from Poland for this first stage of the collaboration is Gdańsk jazz trumpeter Emil Miszk, an award-winning artist exploring the space between tradition, innovation and improvisation. Founder of jazz quintet Algorhythm, Emil has performed at major festivals including Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, Sopot Jazz Festival and Jazz nad Odrą, and received the Fryderyk Award for Jazz Debut of the Year in 2019, often described as Poland’s equivalent of a Grammy.
Emil will perform alongside Patrycja Wybrańczyk, a Polish jazz and contemporary drummer and an active presence on the European improvised music scene. A co-founder of ensembles including O.N.E., Ninja Episkopat and PESH, she has recorded around 15 albums, toured internationally and performed alongside acclaimed artists including Paal Nilssen-Love and Arve Henriksen.
The Boyle concert marks the beginning of the Creative Connexions Ireland Polish/Gdańsk connection, opening a musical and cultural exchange that will continue in Gdańsk later in the year, creating another meeting point for Irish and Polish musicians, audiences and musical traditions, including connections with Kashubian music.
